Computershare
eTree is an innovative project that encourages companies to reduce their waste by choosing electronic securityholder communications instead of paper copies. Since it was launched in 2004 the program has raised over $2 million for Landcare projects around Australia.
eTree was set up by Computershare which is a global market leader in transfer agency and share registration, employee equity plans, proxy solicitation and stakeholder communications. The program is aimed at providing listed company securityholders with an environmental incentive to register to receive electronic communications. eTree was launched in March 2004 with the support of 10 Foundation members and today has over 80 participating companies. For every security holder who registers with eTree, a donation of up to $1 is made to Landcare Australia on their behalf to support vital reforestation projects across Australia and New Zealand. Some funding has also supported projects in Sri Lanka, Tonga and the Philippines.
Landcare Australia’s role is to manage the projects funded through the eTree initiative. This involves some of the following activities;
- Liaise with Landcare groups to find suitable projects both in Australia and overseas
- Oversee Landcare activity associated with these projects
- Manage all financial transactions, reporting and auditing
- Collate all data for reporting requirements (on a quarterly basis)
- Create case study information to use in promotional activity
Projects funded through eTree have focused on the establishment of habitat and wildlife corridors and the reduction of salinity and nutrient runoff into waterways.
