Biodiversity Restoration Workshops Tap Community Interest
New emerging opportunities under Carbon Farming and the Biodiversity Fund have tapped into a rich vein of enthusiasm for knowledge in regional Australia.
Greening Australia in partnership with Landcare Australia Limited and with the support of the Australian Government, will host workshops in 20 locations across the country commencing this week.
The purpose of the workshops is to share Greening Australia’s 30 year experience with the implementation of large scale revegetation projects and to provide land managers with information and tips for establishing successful biodiverse plantings.
CEO of Greening Australia, Brendan Foran says this will be a seminal year for biodiversity restoration and carbon farming. “With the Carbon Farming Initiative and the Biodiversity Fund coming on line there will be new opportunities for farmers to earn income and repair their environments.”
“We encourage anyone with an interest in landscape repair to come along, meet potential project partners, and learn about the mistakes not to make. Despite the holiday period, over 400 participants have registered to attend which is a terrific.”
Landcare Australia Limited CEO, Heather Campbell says the workshops are a great opportunity for people to discuss the issues concerning biodiversity restoration with other landholders and their local community.
“Meeting the Greening Australia team whose on-ground skills and expertise working on landscapes all over Australia will assist landholders understand what projects work.”
