The 2010 National Landcare Awards ceremony, to be held at Parliament House, Canberra on Thursday 24 June will celebrate 20 years of community environmental volunteering in Australia with 88 finalists in the running for a National Landcare Award.

The bi-annual Awards celebrate the achievements of ordinary people making an extraordinary difference. The 2009 State and Territory Award winners make up the 88 finalists from across Australia with the National Award winners to be announced in front of 600 people at the National Landcare Gala Awards dinner.

The Hon Tony Burke MP, Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry said the awards recognise the people who are making a valuable contribution to the future of our country.

“These awards recognise the volunteers who are rebuilding the Australian landscape,” said Mr Burke.

Heather Campbell, CEO Landcare Australia added, The National Landcare Awards span the breadth and diversity of landcare work, from the city to the bush, the ocean to the centre, from big landscape scale projects to small local projects involving local people.

The National Landcare Awards celebrate the work of individuals and groups from around Australia who are making a significant contribution to the environment, and they are not limited by age, gender or culture. The Peoples Choice Awards provides an opportunity for everyone to learn more about the finalists and their passion for the environment. Said Ms Campbell

This year, Australians are encouraged to participate in the Awards by voting for their favourite finalist in The Peoples Choice Award. To get behind your favourite NSW Landcare finalist or to send a message of support to one of the finalists visit www.landcareonline.com.au

Landcare is a uniquely Australian partnership between the community, government and business, consisting of approximately 4000 Landcare and 2000 Coastcare volunteer groups.
