NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service: White Ibis Survey
We need your help with this year’s white ibis survey www.environment.nsw.gov.au/surveys/WhiteIbisSightingForm.htm
Since 2003 NSW NPWS (DECCW) has coordinated an annual Australian white ibis survey and this year’s survey will be conducted on Sunday the 31st of October: THIS SUNDAY.
Last year, we counted 11 136 ibis across the state and received reports from over 100 people for over 200 sites.
This year’s survey is being jointly conducted across Queensland and Victoria. At the same time the annual aerial survey of the eastern states waterbird population is being conducted. As the drought has broken we are extremely interested to compare this year’s community count with last years, as we are wondering if ‘urban ibis’ have moved west to the flooded wetlands..?
As with previous years, you are invited to provide details on White Ibis within your local area to aid our understanding of this species. We are specifically interested in the population size and the environments in which ibis occur. Please look at the reporting data sheet before you conduct your survey: www.environment.nsw.gov.au/surveys/WhiteIbisSightingForm.htm
Please forward this to as many interested persons as possible (e.g. volunteers and industry).
Count on Friday, Sunday or Monday
We understand that counting on Sunday may not be ideal and we are happy to accept counts as close to Sunday as possible, you can report the survey day via the reporting form.
Your assistance is greatly appreciated!
